After we've been discussing recently what the weird orange beetle from the large Wild Republic Insects (photo of the entire set here) is supposed to be I thought I should really give it a repaint to match a Carrion Beetle, family Silphidae. Initially, I wanted to go for the Asian and Australian Diamesus osculans but later i decided to make it look like the closely related Diamesus bimaculatus from Taiwan. So I took out the acrylics and made a quick repaint.

Before:

And after:

There were no further alterations other than repainting.

The paint job is certainly more natural looking, although the original definitely has a certain fabulousness to it!

I like the idea that this figure was intended to be a silphid; certainly makes the most sense. Your paint job is nice but I never alter my figures; inaccurate or not, I like to keep it the way the manufacturer intended.
I do have a small Nicrophorus figure; I believe it is a PlayVisions figure but not sure.

Thanks for the comments, Sean & Blaine.  :) Well, I intended to alter some of the figures even before I bought them. I might go on and modify the butterfly, the Eupholus-coloured blue beetle, and the true bug, too.

Well possible, here's a photo dinocat62 posted in the PV & XX thread: http://animaltoyforum.com/index.php?topic=267.msg3108#msg3108 Could that be the one you have? The entire set is awesome! 8)

yes, that's the Nicrophorus. In fact, I believe I have all of those (my PV and XX beetles arent on display).

They should be on display for sure! :) I'm really envious!
