Walk-around of the Incredible Creatures white-lipped snail (Cepaea hortensis) by Safari Ltd. The sculpt is very good. The colours are a bit more vivid than in the real animal. By my estimation, the model is about three times larger than life size. The figure was retired in 2014, which is a shame, since good snail figures are a bit thin on the ground.

Animal toys (general) / 2019 hopes and dreams
« on: June 23, 2018, 02:05:48 AM »
We haven't had such a thread for a few years, but now is a good time of the year for it. What new releases would you like to see for 2019!? Any specific species, or animals in specific poses, and which companies?

You never know who might be watching this thread...  :))

Forum business / How did you discover the Animal Toy Forum?
« on: June 23, 2018, 01:54:33 AM »
I'm interested to know how members discovered the ATF. I've set up a poll with options, but feel free to elaborate!

I was surprised this figure hadn't be featured in an ATF walk-around yet. So, here you go, a walk-around of the Wild Safari - Wildlife zebra by Safari Ltd.

Mammals represent! :P

Walk-around of the crocodile hatchling with egg by Safari Ltd. (Incredible Creatures line).

Furuta / Barn owl (Furuta - ChocoEgg Series 6)
« on: June 19, 2018, 06:54:52 PM »
Walk around of the barn owl (Tyto alba) by Furuta (ChocoEgg Series 6). It is in a sort of hunched over pose so in the last photo I show its face full on. It looks a little startled! :)) The pin in the first photo and my thumb in the last photo give an intication of scale.

Animal toy lines / Yowies USA - discussion
« on: June 17, 2018, 09:45:50 PM »
I'm creating this topic in response to @Takama and his excellent proliferation of Yowies USA walk-arounds. Maybe this has been discussed already somewhere on the forum, so feel free to point me to the appropriate thread, but I have a few questions.

Does anyone know the relationship between the Australian Yowies and Yowies USA? The two lines look very different, the Australian ones are made of separate hard pieces, while the USA one seem to be single solid (but softer?) sculpts. If so, I'm guessing the company is just exploring a different approach?

What is the packaging like for Yowies USA, do they come with candy?

Lastly, are there any prehistoric critters in the line?

Furuta / Radiated tortoise (Furuta - ChocoEgg Series 6)
« on: June 15, 2018, 05:12:05 PM »
Walk-around of the radiated tortoise ('Geochelone' radiate= Astrochelys radiate) by Furuta (ChocoEgg Series 6). This is one of the better figures in series 6 because most of the seams are hidden - the shell consists of one single piece. The paintwork is pretty good, too. It is tiny, only 4cm long.

This must have been shared before but it is worth flagging again anyway. I've found myself referring to this website quite often:

It is an excellent resource for Japanese so-called animal 'food toys' (miniature animal toys sold with confectionary in plastic eggs, capsules, and so on). The list also includes Australian Yowies.

Furuta / Hamadryas baboon (Furuta - ChocoEgg Series 6)
« on: June 12, 2018, 07:51:51 PM »
Walk-around of the Hamadryas baboon (Papio hamadryas) by Furuta (ChocoEgg Series 6). It is a female, presumably, since the males of this species look rather different, carrying a juvenile on her back. I'm very nearly done with the ChocoEgg Series 6 walk-arounds, just one more figure to go, I think.

Furuta / Golden lion tamarin (Furuta - ChocoEgg Series 6)
« on: June 08, 2018, 05:51:13 PM »
Give us a spin,
Golden lion tamarin!

Walk-around of the golden lion tamarin, Leontopithecus rosalia, by Furuta (ChocoEgg Series 6). One of the slightly more crude models in the series. The artificial perch it is crouching on makes it looks like it belongs in a zoo - I would've preferred a more natural base for this endangered animal.

Animal toys (general) / Chinamals or Chanimals?
« on: June 03, 2018, 05:59:26 PM »
The word 'Chinasaur' is widely used by collectors to refer to dinosaur toys created by unknown companies but marked "made in China" (or unmarked and presumed to be made in China or thereabouts). However, there doesn't seem to be a similar term for animal toys. I'm surely not the the first person to wonder about this? Let me know if I've missed a thread.

If there isn't such a term, could we create one? How about 'Chanimals'? Or 'Chinamals'?

Furuta / Red-eyed tree frog (Furuta - ChocoEgg Series 6)
« on: June 03, 2018, 04:10:34 PM »
Walk-around of the red-eyed tree frog (Agalychnis callidryas) by Furuta (Choco Egg Series 6). As usual for this series, the pieces don't snap together quite as cleanly and crisply as Kaiyodo's similar offerings.  It is in a really nice pose but the arms don't align properly with the branch. The colour is bright and grades nicely, but my frog was also missing one of its pupils, so I had to add it on with a black marker (which is why one eye looks so crude). All in all, a nice figure, but a shame about the execution.

Furuta / Sichuan snub-nosed monkey (Furuta - ChocoEgg Series 6)
« on: June 01, 2018, 07:43:00 PM »
Walk-around of the Sichuan snub-nosed monkey, also known as the Golden snub-nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus roxellana) by Furuta (ChocoEgg Series 6). It always struck me as having a rather unusual facial expression and pose. It's sitting on the ground and reaching one arm way over to its side for some inexplicable reason. Or, is this model depicting some specific behaviour?

Furuta / Tasmanian Devil (Furuta - ChocoEgg Series 6)
« on: May 31, 2018, 05:43:00 PM »
Walk-around of the Tasmanian Devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) by Furuta (ChocoEgg Series 6). It doesn't fit together perfectly so the seams are visible. I forgot to take a photo with a pin as a scale bar but it is small: only 6cm long.

In the news / New species of hairy crab?
« on: May 31, 2018, 12:49:39 PM »
Is this hairy crab the newest species found in the UK?

General / Skeletons for sale?
« on: April 14, 2018, 10:23:38 PM »
Can anyone recommend a place to buy real animal skeletons (legally)?

General / Dinotoyforum diorama contest 2018 open
« on: April 07, 2018, 01:26:11 PM »

If only I had time, I could organise an ATF diorama contest as well! Maybe one day, once I have retired!

Furuta / Swallow-tailed hummingbird (Furuta - ChocoEgg Series 6)
« on: January 11, 2018, 02:36:55 PM »
Walk-around of the Furuta swallow-tailed hummingbird, Eupetomena macoura.

Furuta / Verreaux's sifaka (Furuta - ChocoEgg Series 6)
« on: January 11, 2018, 01:45:02 PM »
Walk-around of the Verreaux's sifaka, sometimes listed as a langur monkey, by Furuta. Give us a twirl!
