New for 2017 / Re: Diramix new for 2017
« on: September 09, 2017, 08:02:37 PM »
It would be great if Diramix (and DeAgostini) figures looked more like their priomotional materials--even the cartoony stuff. Still, they make some interesting things, maybe someday they'll be more readily available everywhere!

Am I the only one getting new figures lately?  :P

Yoou might be...I got my one thing recently. I have a couple things coming, but otherwise it's been a bit dried up lately!

I had a fishy day today!

Success! Despite the attempts of the USPS and Canada Post...not sure which...I was able to get most of the Arizona fishes from Marsh & Associates!

I already had the Bonytail Chub (centre front) and Desert pupfish (back right).

The new ones are Colorado Pikeminnow (upper left), Apache Trout (front left) and Loach Minnow (front right).

They are very cool! Now I just need to hunt down a Razorback sucker!

And most are still available from the Marsh & Associates site--I got the last Loach minnow, and they are out of razorbacks.

But the others are still there. And you can get stickers and a plush razorback as well!

If you like fish or education, stop by their store! http://www.marsheducation.org/?page_id=75

Nice Sean! Together you and I will bring attention to neglected animal groups in toy form  ;)

I hope to see walkarounds of these, or maybe a review of the entire set (if complete!).

It's not a complete set yet. I still need the Razorback sucker. Which they are out of from the source...there are ways, but I'm not sure yet.

Maybe once I have all six.

But it was even more fishy this week! Thanks to the Tetrapod Zoology redbubble store, I also got a sticker, card and shirt with Darren Naish's bichir art! Plus Marsh sent me extra AZ fish stickers! Some of the things:

Oh interesting! So is the less serpentine oarfish the newer, updated version?

I can't remember off hand what the new one looks like, but this is mine--I'm pretty sure that it is more serpentine and more red.

How did I miss this?

Also...squeeeee! ;D I am more surprised that they did the Osteoglossum first, and the Scleropages second (there are 3 figures of the former, and uncountable numbers of the latter).

A new gar is also welcome. Would have been nice to see one that wasn't an alligator gar, but maybe they'll add a genus later? Or maybe it will turn out to be a Tropical? Those are popular if expensive aquarium fish in Japan.

Some of the Bandai animal Kaiser figurines are very nice, but not all :)

I have several. You are correct, some are really nice, some are...less so. Many of their fish are decent at least!

As for other salamanders:

K&M International (as stated on the bellies) from the Atlanta zoo! These are obviously old stock...I should have bought at least one of each, but didn't (same moulds, different paint, like usual). But they did come with tags, with names and everything!

The Colorata Deep Sea Fish set caught my eye for a few reasons, mainly because of the oarfish. I have a couple of these sets on my watch list and noticed that the oarfish appears to have different poses in each set. One is much more serpentine than the other, and upon closer inspection I saw that some of the bases and other animals have slight adjustments as well. Is this just a difference in stock images or are there actually two differing sets?

They have indeed updated the set. I believe that they added a Barrel Eye, and the oarfish is definitely a different sculpt and paint job (it's more pink now).

This is not unusual for CollectA sets--the Saltwater fishes, Reef fishes, River life and Fossil fishes sets have all undergone additions, repaints and subtractions.

The gar is beautiful...although not particularly alligator gar-y

But yeah, the prices...I can get a lot of other figures for that much!

New for 2017 / Re: Ichimon Co. - Nature Techni Colour - New for 2017

Looks like they are doing two deep sea sets, one in June and one in July.

Sean, looks like an interesting fish in this set. Otherwise a lot of duplicates. I think the isopod might be the same from their set a couple years ago (the size is the same...)

imagur

Wow, this set looks awesome! Definitely have to keep my eyes peeled for this one.

I am getting the Indonesian coelacanth and Frilled shark. The others are either repeats or...meh.

And if you're looking for them...look soon. These sets are short-lived and restricted to Japan.

I have ordered from Rakuten. The shipping can be high, but otherwise it's okay. Many of us are getting our Japanese figures through Brett (bmknj17). He has contacts there.

Thank you!

Albeit similar to axolotl, Mudpuppies are different species so no thanks. I can only hope that a nice figure comes out soon.

True. Mudpuppies are my favorite amphibian, and I have a tattoo of one on my ribs. I'm actually surprised there aren't more axolotl figures out there with how popular they are in the pet trade. The Japanese especially seem to love them, but there aren't even a great abundance of Japanese figures of axolotls.

I believe there is also a figure (albino form) with the Hikari set of aquarium figures from Japan--and that one is even harder to find.

Also, I just noticed that Logan has the same salamander lure as you do! I cut the hooks off because, well, duh. It would be nice to pull the metal right out, but what are you gonna do!

Dredging up an old topic here, but very relevant--coming late this year!

That is going to be one impressive book--and it's not even that expensive!

What is the yellow fish above the mudskipper?

15
This always takes longer than it should...but the fish are now on the site!

https://faunafigures.com/product/faunafigures-fishes-wave-4-south-america/

Yay, lungfish! And stingrays! And knifefish!

16
Thanks!

17
I'm being a little disingenuous here...because I don't have them on the site yet.

But I'm just really excited that the next wave of Fauna Fishes have arrived! Black Ghost knifefish, Motoro freshwater ray, and South American lungfish!

Plus, a couple more burbot, and a bowfin in the phase 2 colours...time to update the TAI...

I will get them up on the site in the next couple days. I still need to QC them, photograph them, get them on the site...but guys! Black ghost knife!

Does that gar have prey in its mouth?

It does--a little orange fish (feeder goldfish?)

Side note--it turns out the Georgia Aquarium has 3 species of gar. Spotted, longnose and alligator!

The moray is two or three pieces. They don't fit all that well--Yujin tends to be more flexible material. Plus, it may have been a second casting; it first showed up as one of the secrets in the Yujin saltwater fish series.

And I don't think it's a Kidako moray--that one is best represented in one of the early Aquatales series.

Sean, not only is that set a 'hybrid' but the shrimp is missing its antennae ;-)

See, that's why the Taobao irregular sets cause me some concern--I know that they are not proper, or correct--and may not know if they are outright wrong.

As for the Yujin eel I found the paper...the whole set is odd, and contains unusual things. I will have to scan it to show it.
