Manatee (Collecta - Sea Life)
« on: December 23, 2013, 02:26:58 AM »
Hello friends, this is the figure of Manatee (Trichechus sp) Linnaeus, 1758 of Collecta - Sea Life. Total lenght is 150mm. This figure was relased in 2011 and it is avaliable nowaday. Manatees are large, fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals sometimes known as "sea cows". They have a large, flexible, prehensile upper lip. They use the lip to gather food and eat, as well as using it for social interactions and communications. Manatees have shorter snouts than their fellow sirenians, the dugongs. I think that this specie is a West Indian manatee (Trichechus manatus).

Collecta is a young brand of figures, but in his short time of existence, they have done a lot of figures of different species of animals (included rare species of dinosaurs and animals). In their cattegory of sea life, they have included the Manatee. This figure is a perfect representation of this mammal. The colors are exact and the details are awesome. I think that it is one of the best figures of this animal. This is a early gift for Christmas from my parents to me, the same that Sperm Whale  ^-^.

Possibly, yes. It has nails on its flippers which would be absent in the Amazonian Manatee. West African Manatee could be possible, too, but it's most likely it's meant to be a West Indian since it's the most popular of all these. :)

Thanks for linking me to this Jetoar! I like it even better than the calf, the face seems more detailed. Still love that texture they gave the skin.
