At last, a Sumatran rhino! This is the last of the extant species to be represented in large toy form from on of the major brands.
It's a beautiful figure and well worth the wait. Unfortunately, the species id critically endangered with so few left in the wild and even fewer in captivity. The future is unfortunately not so promising for this rare and ancient beast.

With it long extinct close relative, the Woolly rhino

CollectA / Bongo Antelope ( CollectA)
« on: August 03, 2017, 05:46:21 PM »
My prayers has been answered, thank you CollectA for producing this beautiful figure! I have been praying for a Bongo figure forever, and finally!
It's an impressive figure! It is larger than the Kaiyodo stury room figure.

Impressive figure of one of the most majestic antelope and also my favorite.

Now, CollectA should do some prehistoric ungulates :)

CollectA / Saiga Antelope ( CollectA)
« on: August 03, 2017, 05:41:53 PM »
Another first ( I think), the highly odd looking and endangered Saiga antelope finally has a figure!
And it's a beautiful figure! I'm so happy that CollectA chose this one, it truly deserves a figure.

With the Chiru, another high plains and highly endangered antelope. CollectA really has the best collection and species diversity of anteopes! I hope they keep on making them!

CollectA / Hirola Antelope ( CollectA Wild Life)
« on: August 03, 2016, 08:23:35 PM »
Another unique and obscure species of antelope joins the CollectA herd -Hirola Antelope also known as Hunter's Hartebeest.
Sadly, the Hirola is also one of the most critically endangered antelope in Africa, with a population estimate of 600 animals left in the wild.
Like many critically endangered animals, habitat loss, poaching, and drought are the main threat to it continued survival in the wild.

With the other African ungulate, the equally endangered Grevy's Zebra

also in the photo is the adorable baby Eland

CollectA / Nilgai Antelope ( CollectA Wild Life)
« on: August 03, 2016, 08:13:23 PM »
And now, we have a very unique and obscure species of antelope courtesy of CollectA, the Large Nilgai Antelope.
The Nilgai or also know as Blue Bull,is the largest of the Asian antelope and is endemic to Indian continent. There are now feral population of this antelope living freely in parts of the American South ( Texas) where they were introduced and trophy animals for hunting.

Here he is with another Indian antelope, the black buck

CollectA / Grevy's Zebra ( CollectA Wild Life)
« on: August 03, 2016, 08:06:58 PM »
And here we have CollectA's Grevy's Zebra, part of 2016 collection.
Beautifully sculpted and a nice change from the typical zebra species that we get.
The largest of the zebra species and unfortunately also  the most threatened species.

Here he is with the other African Animals from the 2016 collection

CollectA / Tylacine ( CollectA Wildlife)

CollectA's version of this magnificent animal with a tragic story.
This figure is beautifully done, the best figure out there by far. For a change, it's nice that this figure is a female and with a baby :)

With Mojo's - they make a nice pair, just so happened that Mojo's is a male ^-^

My Collection

And with CollectA's other marsupials

Collections / My Asian Wildlife Collection

Having acquired some nice asian animal figures recently, I figured I should start a collection thread of those figures currently in my collection. Most will be mammal.

CollectA / Babirusa ( CollectA Wild life)
« on: August 01, 2015, 07:41:51 PM »
And now the babirusa, one of two figure that I was really waiting excited for! This figure does not disappoint . Beautifully sculpted and very detailed. The tusk are delicate, as it should, but well done ( some blunting on the tusk for safety reasons). So happy for finally have a toy figure of this unique species, it's long overdue.
For those of you who have the babirusa from Bestiari sculpted by Joan Milelire Soler, this figure is a great companion to it. They make a great pair and display nice together.

With Joan Milelire Soler's Babirusa sculpt from Bestiari, nice yes?

CollectA / Kiwi ( CollectA)
« on: August 01, 2015, 07:32:18 PM »
And now we have a cute little Kiwi! ;D Nicely done, perhaps the best one out there currently of this enigmatic bird.

CollectA / Nile crocodile ( CollectA Wild life)
« on: August 01, 2015, 07:30:19 PM »
New 2015 Nile Crocodile from CollectA. Nice to see a croc that is in a different pose. This one is about to jump up and grab an unfortunate gazelle or gnu  :))
I did not notice it before, but the fire turned out to have an articulated jaw, so it can be closed or open mouth, your pick ;)

CollectA / Jacob Sheep ( CollectA Farm)
« on: July 01, 2015, 07:28:48 PM »
Jacob Sheep from CollectA's 2015 lineup. This is one odd looking sheep for sure ;) I'm not sure if there are other figures of this sheep around, but this one is definitely the best.
The 4 horns that distinguish this breed from others is very well executed. It's a beautiful figure that will go nicely with my small farm collection. I love it that even in their domestic figure line, CollectA still produce some obscure/odd breeds.
Enjoy ^-^

CollectA / Chiru or Tibetan Antelope ( CollectA Wildlife)
« on: June 14, 2015, 07:14:12 PM »
And now we have here one of the figures I was most excited about, CollectA's Chiru or Tibetan Antelope figures, new for 2015!
This unique antelope is endemic to the high alpine plains of Tibet and China. Fewer than 75,000 are left in the wild and poaching for their wool has seriously threatened the species survival in recent years.
Males are slightly larger than females, and have dark stripes on their leg and sports a slender horn, both of which the female lack.
CollectA's figure is obviously male, it would be awesome if one day, a female version will be release. This is yet another obscure species, and if I am not mistaken, the first ever figure of this species in toy form, and CollectA delivers.
The figure is beautifully sculpted, I especially love the way the fur is textured. Everything about this figure is delicate unlike say the other antelopes or deers that CollectA has in their line.
From my research, it looks like there are 1,000 very limited boxed edition of this figure produced to be released only in China. I think it was part of the educational/awareness campaign for the conservation and status of this species. The figure are the same, but the limited edition comes in a nice box and some photos and booklet. Unfortunately, the one I saw for sale, the asking price is $99!
Anyway, hope you enjoy this figure. It is definitely highly recommended for any collection. It is not often that some truly unique and obscure species, like this one, show itself in the market.
Now, let's hope that CollectA will also produce another highly endangered, obscure, antelope, the Saiga Antelope for 2016!

CollectA / Woodland Caribou ( CollectA Wildlife)
« on: June 14, 2015, 06:53:42 PM »
Here we go, the 2015 CollectA Woodland Caribou figure! It's really a  beautifully sculpted figure, very rich in details and textures. I would say this is the best figure of a caribou I have ever seen, better than Papo or Safari, IMHO.
Interesting to note that they even modeled the antlers so that one is not as formed ( smaller point) than the other, a nice touch, instead of both antler perfectly the same.

With last year's ( ?) equally beautiful Fallow Deer

Mojö Fun / Pangolin ( Mojo- Wildlife)
« on: October 19, 2014, 12:52:24 AM »
Another exciting figure from Mojo's 2014 lineup. I have to say, this pangolin version is by far my favorite figure of this species. Pangolins are odd creatures that don't have much representation lout there in the toy figure world, so this is a welcome addition.
pangolins, also known as scaly anteaters, can be found naturally from tropical region in Africa and Asia. Their adaptation to evade predators is to cover their body in heavy armor, unique in the mammal world. These are large, overlapping scales made out of keratin, the same material that nails are made out of. The scales at birth are soft, but hardens as the animal matures. Sadly, although effective in protecting the animals from natural predators ( even lions), the pangolins scaly exterior is no match to the threats from humans. All over their range, pangolins are hunted by human in an alarming rate. Most of these unfortunate animals end up in the bush mean trade, and their scales in asiatic medicine. Just like t he rhino, there is no scientific proof that the pangolin scales has medicinal value.
Hopefully, protection for these unique and fascinating animals will come soon before they, too, will end up in the endangered list, or worst, go extinct.

Mojö Fun / Komodo Dragon ( Mojo-Wildlife)
« on: October 19, 2014, 12:38:52 AM »
Mojo's version of the largest lizard in the world, the Komodo Dragon. Endemic to the island of Komodo in Indonesia, Komodo Dragons are versatile animals. As young animals, they are mostly found on trees. This keeps them safely out of reach of the cannibalistic adults. Only at a certain size do they move down to the ground. AS adults, they can be found from the coast, grasslands, forest, and savannah where they hunt animals big and small, from rats, other reptiles, to large mammals like deer, buffalo, and pig.
Mojo's figure is my favorite of the komodo figures currently out there. It has a more natural feel and look to it than the Papo and Safari versions.

Mojö Fun / Black Crested Macaque ( Wild life)
« on: October 15, 2014, 01:14:02 AM »
Another unusual figure from Mojo, the Black Crested Macaque. This is one species that is not represented in toy form, and not many people even knows about it ( I only knew since I saw a documentary show once). Endemic in only two island in Indonesia, Sulawesi and Pulau Bacan, where they were introduced by humans in 1867. This adaptable monkeys are found in forest and costal mangrove forest.
It's a nice, if not scary looking, figure well worth adding to any collection.

Bonus: two animals found on the same island as t his monkey, the Anoa and Babirusa

Mojö Fun / Sun bear ( Mojo Wildlife)
« on: October 07, 2014, 12:29:31 AM »
Here we have one of the few sun bear figures out there. This one is from Mojo, part of their 2014 release. Sun bear is  the smallest of all the true bear species, and also the most airboreal of them, spending the majority of their time on trees. Little is know of their habits int he wild as they are secretive in nature and hard to maintain and breed in captivity. Like many of the bear species worldwide, the sun bear is also an endangered species.
This figure is truly one of the gems in Mojo's 2014 lineup and worth adding to any collection. It's a very well made figure and also the largest figure of the species thatI know of.

And here he is with the Bullyland's moon or sloth bear, another unique and hard to find figure ( I think its retired already, there was also a cub)

Other/Miscellaneous / Male Lowland Anoa ( Bestiari)
« on: October 02, 2014, 01:35:40 AM »
And here we have the companion species for the babyrousa, the lowland anoa ( Bubalus depressiconis). Another beautiful piece by the talented Joan Milelire Soler. Anoa's are obscure species, so it is with great joy to finally have one.
Just like the babyrousa, this figure is 1/16 scale and also happens to be # 6. Anoa's are secretive animals. There are the two sub-species; the lowland and mountain.Anoas are small bovid, standing barely 31 inches tall at the shoulder. They look like miniature buffalo. Both are endemic to the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia. Both are also endangered. Not much is know about their lifestyle in the wild.

With it's companion the babyrousa
and with some of the figures in my collection by the same artist.

Other/Miscellaneous / Babyrousa ( Bestiari)
« on: October 02, 2014, 01:22:20 AM »
Finally, the much anticipated ( by me) Babyrousa Celebensis has arrived! This figure is from Bestiari sculpted by Joan Milelire Soler. This is one beautiful figure! I swear, after each figure, his figures are just getting better and better.
This particular piece is so delicate looking with the tusk and all. For those of you who really wants some unique piece, I suggest getting some of hiss figures. Check out his companion, the Lowland Anoa, another beautiful and obscure species from the same region as this pig.
Figure is 1/16 scale and this particular figure is # 6 :)
And his companion, the Lowland Anoa
and with some of the other figures by the same artist
