New for 2015 / COLORATA - New for 2015
« on: June 24, 2015, 08:42:53 PM »
It appears that Colorata is updating some of their Real Figure Boxes and releasing new versions of older sets.  They first announced the re-release of the Endangered Species: Raptors box set, which includes a new Golden Eagle and reissues the Steller's Sea Eagle, Bald Eagle, Secretarybird, and Harpy Eagle, but no longer includes the Ornate Hawk-Eagle, Northern Goshawk, or Greater Philippine Eagle.  I haven't had a chance to get the pictures to be posted here, but you can check out the website here:

Colorata also appears to be releasing a new Endangered Animals: Wild Bears box, which replaces the retired Wild Bears and Dogs box set.  The new set features all new sculpts of all eight bear species: Polar Bear, Brown Bear, American Black Bear, Asiatic Black Bear, Sloth Bear, Sun Bear, Spectacled Bear, and Giant Panda.  Again, I've been lazy about getting the pictures, but the set can be seen here:

Azara's Zorro (Lycalopex gymnocercus), otherwise known as Pampas Fox, is a member of the South American "false foxes," more closely related to members of the genus Canis than to the foxes.  Repaint of CollectA Woodland collection Red Fox. Completed in 2014.  Approximate scale 1:10 (1:7 to 1:11).

Customised figures / Asiatic Golden Cat (Pardofelis temminckii)

Asiatic Golden Cat (Pardofelis temminckii) - repaint of the Safari Ltd. North American Wildlife Puma.  Completed in 2014.  Approximate scale 1:10 (1:9 to 1:11).  P. temminckii has always looked, to me, very much like a mini-puma, so I thought this robust figure from Safari Ltd (my favorite Puma figure to date) would make an ideal Asiatic Golden Cat.

It could probably stand to be a little darker in color, but playing with the reds/oranges/browns to get the color exact was beyond difficult, and this species occurs in such a wide range of pelage that the finished figure is not out of the realm of realism.  In fact, a Google search found ample support for such an orangey colored cat.  The facial markings also were no walk in the park, but turned out okay in the end.... I would definitely like to revisit this species in the future.
