I really like the three new sharks!

If they will show well made in the real as it is the Safari nurse shark I have, they will be great models. Looking forward to see the in real.

The ring-tailed lemur is not a new species, but for what I know is the best made on the market.

The most common deer makes a really beautiful pair with Pere David's, I always wanted to have a deer in my collection but never found one from major producers who really pleased me. Now two in one single batch. Great. Anyway I prefer Per's David, really a must have for me.

Good shot on the Gray Whale too, even if those barnacles look too big to me, and I really don't like seeing those details, even if they are realistic.

So-and-so the Blue whale, at least from this picture there's something cartooonish in the way the head is shaped, and the colour choosen looks a bit dull, even if my son pointed out correctly that it makes look the model a bit more realistic in confrontation with our Schleich's model, that is really "blue".

If I had a shop selling these new ones I would buy the civet, the lemur, the zebra, Pere David's deer, and the grey whale.

Animals / Re: Classification
« on: November 14, 2017, 01:50:34 AM »
So guys, looks like I came up with an achievement.

I finished few weeks ago the first level of my global living beings database.

I started the first level of it from biota/abiota, that means that eventually I might even include a classification of the minerals, and went down pointing out all the forks of the tree, beginning to open branches starting from the level Animalia. Actually there are some lists even of prions, viruses, archaea, bacteria and the very first levels of Chromista, Protista, Plantae and Fungi, but they are just few lines. Into Animalia, from the level of Chordata the tree is completed at least up to Families, and Tunicata, Amphibia, Reptilia, Synapsida and Mammalia are completed at least up to level of genus. Manz of these up to the level of species, and some even of subspecies. There is also a column for races and chromatisms, that have been compiled for very rare cases indeed (black panther jaguar and leopard, king cheetah, a few races of horse, cows, sheeps...).

Every animal present in the current catologues of Safari, Schleich, Collecta, Papo, Mojo, Bullyland and Likaonmodels and some from the catalogues of Maia &Borges and Geoworld is listed aside the proper species.

My pleasure is the possibility to check out quickly if a certain species is present in the catalogue of the main producers that I can find on the market here, and mostly if there is a better alternative from other producers of the same species, genus, family when I am considering to buy a model for my son. Checking out with him from my mobile all these things is one of the funniest parts of the whole game....  :))

Moreover, I like the possibility to check out with him how complete is the coverage of the different classes, orders, families. For example, we were waiting for a long time a Viverridae and it's been a great pleasure to discover that finally Collecta made one of them, and the same goes for Estemmenosuchus that is the second Therapsida in the market made by major producers after Inostrancevia by Safari, and so on.

If anyone would like to have the file I will be pleased to pass it on, I put a quite big number of hours in making it, but sure sharing it will only increase the pleasure, if ever someone will show interest for it.

completely agree, "dinos" also here (because into the extinct animals there are many ones who are already mammals and have very strict relations with extant ones) and out fantasy characters with animal-shaped bodies.

You don't discuss dinos at all here? Only on the other forum?

On the horses side, I really wonder if children go THAT crazy for horses.

My son takes riding lessons, dressage is the biggest sports passion of her mother, and it is quite normal that he likes horses models, but he wanted to have 5 out of nearly 80 models now.

Really surprised, but if they produce all those horses, I have to consider that they sell all those horses.

I think that maybe this Pere David's Deer is the only one deer model I ever saw that I definitely am sure I DO want to have.

Impressive detail and natural outlook, great achievement, on a not that obvious species.

Compliments.

I like the Sei Whale, really good and a good choice in the scale, it will fit properly amid my other models. It is only a bit too regular in the colours, most pictures show darker-lighter patterns made with stripes and lines around the head that look quite recognizable, while here it looks a lot like a blue whale.

Babirusa and pigmy hippo, I love a lot the choice of the species, but the results look average to say the least, Collecta's versions look way more well made. The same goes for the Sumatran Rhino, with the difference that I don't know a better version of other major producers.

just got the news by mail, same comments that I read here

I am sure more news are coming, and the Civet is a very welcome enlargement in the coverage of lesser known whole families like Viverridae. Actually I had hoped that the first one might have been a Bitnurong, but the Civet is a nice pic anyway. I only consider a lost opportunity not having shown the very particular crest of longer and straight fur on the back of the animal, that in the model is shown not erected.

Anyone knows what species or at least genus might be this Otter?

I watched some pics and looks like it might be a Lontra or an Aonyx. What is your opinion?

really rare and beautiful animal, good sculpting and really poor painting. So bad.

Ok, in my area only live hedhogs, and I dont' know how porcupines look like from real life.

Anyway, terrible model.

And anyway, I am amazed by the American mastodon, so cool!

True, sbell. I did not comment on the porcupine because it is really uncommentable. I think that a releavant part of the odd effect comes from the painting. The snout looks well made, and the quills made in that way could have given a good or at least acceptable result if they were painted with more detailed care. That confusing white brushing is really not working.

I love the sculpt, and the matte finish is not a problem, but I find that the painting is way too little precise to be satisfying, especially in the eye-catching points, like the eye, the beak, and the nek area where the light and the dark grey border each other.

My great favourites among these new models are the American mastodon (looks a terrific result under every point of view), and then the Vaquita (the very first porpoise I have ever seen made by one of the major toy producers) and the long awaited Muskox (even if from the pics that does not thrills me as much as the Mastodon with regard to the details and the painting job).
