Scorpion (Papo - Wild Animals)
« on: September 18, 2016, 10:06:57 PM »
Walk-around of the Scorpion by Papo, Wild Animals, new for 2016. A species is not assigned to the figure but it appears to be an Androctonus sp., probably A. australis (Linnaeus, 1758).

This is the second arthropod by Papo this year, a new realm for them, the other being the previously-reviewed wolf spider (http://animaltoyforum.com/index.php?topic=1745.0). Papo is off to a GREAT start with these two, and if they continue to add arthropod figures, then I am sure I'll be investing in more Papo. These rival CollectA for non-Japanese, major companies.

The figure and its tail (metastoma) are harder plastic, the pincers (pedipalps) and legs are a little softer (but not as soft as the wolf spider's legs). The figure is hard to measure, but the body (minus appendages) from the head to where the tail starts to raise is 45 mm. This should make it slightly larger than 1:1 or thereabouts.

Beautiful! :) Nice to see they also cared for the position of the eyes.

I just got mine, looks really nice and it goes to make a very nice couple with Papo's wolf spider.

Now my usual question. My son believed that with a spider and a scorpion he had a model for each order of the Aracnidae, but I had to inform him that there are many other ones! Are there some other species that are part of the other orders of Aracnidae which are made by major companies?

Rossano, besides spiders and scorpions, class Arachnida has 6 other living orders with figures, and one extinct example. The Safari Sanctacaris is from the Cambrian Life TOOB. The Kaiyodo pseudoscorpion shows up on eBay, but it is too fragile to be a toy. The rest of the arachnids are hard to find.
Here is a link to the Toy Animal Wiki:

Bmathison1972 could probably think of examples of arachnids that are not listed on the wiki.

EDIT: Number of orders has been revised from 4 to 6 because subclass Acari shows 3 orders.

It really looks nice, from the detailed it seems like I have seen a real scorpion.
