Forum business / Re: Image hosting problems
« on: June 16, 2018, 08:30:04 AM »
Imageshack. These images are not appearing even if one goes direct to the image URL. @Jetoar (who will fix his images in due course), @Varanus, @werb for example, all seem to be victims of this image host. I presume Imageshack have changed their 3rd Party hosting policy, does anyone know?

I've changed all my image urls to PostImage and they seem to be working.  I may have missed a few, but I think I got all of my walk-arounds and photos in the taxonomic groupings sections.

All I remember of Imageshack was one day not being able to log in and then all the images became defunct.  Just as well, because that site was slow and spam ridden as heck!

New for 2018 / Re: Papo - New for 2018

Nice diverse line up!  I'm really liking the rattlesnake, bat, lynx, albatross, and whale shark.

Any idea on an ID for the snake, seems quite distinctively bulky?

Patterning looks like a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, but the body is a bit too short for any species.  The albatross looks like a Black-browed Albatross, nice change of pace from the usual Wandering and Royal.

A lot of interesting figures this year!  My favorites are the Corn Snake, frogfish, Sumatran Rhino, Muskox, Leopard Seal, Vaquita, and Whale Toob.  The Sei Whale is neat too, but a little off looking for some reason.

Oddly enough, I think I'm most excited for the Good Luck Mini Reef Squid.  It'll make excellent prey for hungry marine reptiles!  >:D

Located in the San Diego area.  Very reputable, I buy all my reptiles from them.  :)

Animals / The Secret Life of Lanthanotus

Reposting from the DTF:

The ancient and super cool Earless Monitor (Lanthanotus borneensis) has long been something of an enigma to herpetologists.  Most of what's known comes from specimens briefly held in captivity many decades ago or found dead by farmers and fishermen.  What we thought we knew of their biology was mostly just educated guesses, as wild specimens have rarely been observed.  Until now.

A new free-to-read paper on this species was recently published and sheds much needed light on their biology in the wild:

Great idea TQ!  I'll split the invert section up and add your additions some time in the near future. :)

I'm excited to announce that tomorrow, 4/30/13, Birds of New Guinea from Princeton Field Guides should be available.  I say "should" because its been delayed and teased several times over the past few years, but now there's some info up about it so I'm hopefully that they'll finally deliver. :)
Once available, it'll be the only guide of its kind currently in production for this avian rich region of the world! :o

Anyone own any of the Smithsonian Handbooks published by DK?  I imagine they're far from exhaustive, but they look to be very attractively put together with nice photos.
I used to have the one about herps.  Definitely not comprehensive, but lots of nice pictures and interesting info.
