Pronghorn (Wildlife by Mojö Fun)

In nature, anachronisms are an interesting mystery. Why do Lemurs cry out in terror of birds that won’t attack them? Why do avocados’ have such large seeds? Why do the trees of New Zealand have sharp leaves as saplings? The animal of this review has an intriguing be partially useful anachronism, the pronghorn (Antilocapra americana), an animal looking like an antelope or deer, but actually being closer related genetically to giraffe and okapi. It’s anachronism is its speed, reaching a staggering 55 miles per hour, a speed no predator in America can reach. The reason it adapted to run so fast is due to the now extinct American cheetah, having to outrun it. Though it has gone, they have kept their amazing sprinting ability. There have been a few figures of it, and here is one by Mojo Fun.

Here we see a magnificent buck, as you can see by it’s horns, something the females lack. The paint work is astonishing, having the accurate white stripping on orangish brown fur. There could be a couple more black stripes around the head, but this can vary from individual to individual.

The pose is a mighty one, striding out or possibly mid gallop, about to run at blistering speeds. It is a decent size too, measuring 3.7″ long and 3.5″ from hoof to horn, so should fit in with most lines with American animals.

This is a brilliant model, all in all. Not many toy manufacturers have made models of it, so this is a worthwhile grab. It is one of the easier ones to grab, though not necessarily saying much by that. Still, if you find it online for a reasonable price, definitely pick it up.

  • Wonderful! I had this figure early on in my Synoptic Collection, but not too long ago replaced it with the Safari figure (which I think has a better paint job). This figure was sculpted by forum member Ana (she’s more active on STS these days but has been part of ATF in the past)
