Meerkat (AAA)

The African plains has some fantastic animals living across it. Gorillas, elephants, rhinos, and other magnificent large animals. But some of the smaller creatures also garner respect and attention. For me, the one that gains this are the meerkat (Suricata suricatta), small carnivores that live in packs across the savanna, eating small animals and dodging larger predators. These adorable critters are well liked across the globe, resulting in many figures.

While meerkats are small, this figure is not, standing 3.1″ high and 2″ from foot to tail. The pose is a classic for meerkats, standing up, watching, being a sentry for its clan. It is a great pose for the figure, although the arms seem a little too small as a result, and too far tucked in.

The figure has a very detailed texture, maybe to the point of being over-textured. It does not feel the best quality either, almost to the point of missing anatomical features. The paint scheme is right, but it feels a little too underdone, almost fading out.

While this is not a terrible figure, it is very middle of the road, maybe to be expected for an older figure. It’s a little retro. If you are interested, this will be an eBay hunt, as this has long since been retired. It may give some nostalgia, but most people will want to look for better figures.

  • I have to admit, I have never been a fan of AAA’s mammals (well, almost none of their vertebrates). The fur always seems way over-textured, the color looks like one solid color overlaying a solid base (often, as in this case, something on white), and they often have exaggerated red eyes.

That being said, I really enjoy these kinds of blog reviews, to remind us of our ‘toy animal roots’ :-). Thanks as always!

  • Always a pleasure! Good to look back and see how far we’ve come.
